On 2nd December 2010, the Roman authorities announced and confirmed the introduction of the “Contributo di Soggiorno” – a visitor tax to be paid by all visitors to Rome staying in the city after 01 January 2011, regardless of book date.
The tax will be charged as follows and is to be paid on the spot before check-out:
€uro 3 per person per night in 5* & 4* hotels
€uro 2 per person per night for all other accommodations
Maximum number of nights taxable per stay is 10
Children under 2 and youth hostels are exempt
